Peranakan Porcelain Plate

Right, so a quick explanation. I'm a peranakan, also known as a straits-born chinese. Basically my ancestors came to south east asia a long time ago and settled in Singapore, Malacca and some parts of Java.

We're kind of a dying culture.. as of now we're mostly known for our awesome food, british ties and crazy matriarchs.

Right, so here we have a porcelain plate that was once commonplace in a peranakan home. Usually commissioned in china, they were usually done up in pastel colours (white, rose pink, blue, yellow and green). I didn't wanna colour it since I would hardly do it justice... and I'm lazy.

Also, floral patterns with some types of birds or mythical creatures are favoured.



What spurred me on to do this? School. One of my modules studies the peranakan culture in relation to vernacular 3D design.
